Although Virginia law requires traffic to stop for public school buses, traffic does not stop for public transit vehicles. Traffic that may come around the bus while it is stopped cannot see pedestrians who cross in front of the bus. Pedestrians who cross in front of the bus can not see oncoming traffic. This creates a dangerous situation. PLEASE do not cross in front of the bus after disembarking. Instead, wait for the bus to depart and use the nearest crosswalk or proceed to the rear of the bus to cross. These two options will help you see oncoming traffic and help oncoming traffic see you.
Please do not step out in front of any bus in an attempt to flag it down. Radford Transit only stops at designated bus stops. Stepping out in front of a moving bus in an attempt to flag it down creates a safety risk for pedestrians, passengers, and other vehicles on the road. Do the right thing for yourself and your community, catch the bus at designated bus stops.
While we recognize that it is easy to get in a rush, extending courtesy to your fellow passengers makes riding the bus more pleasant for everyone. Please allow other passengers to exit before attempting to board the bus. Observing this courtesy will help everyone get where they are going as quickly and safely as possible.
Radford Transit has some vehicles that have a door at the front of the vehicle and a door at the rear of the vehicle. When traveling on these vehicles please board the bus at the front door and exit at the rear door. Keeping the flow passengers moving consistently helps everyone get to their destination more comfortably.
Pets are not allowed on Radford Transit vehicles. This helps us keep our vehicles clean, tidy, and comfortable for all riders. We do allow service animals on board our vehicles. Please note that any service animal that displays aggressive or disruptive behavior may be removed from the vehicle or denied access.
