Recreation Commission

Responsibilities
The Recreation, Parks and Playgrounds Commission may conduct any form of recreation or cultural activity that will employ the leisure time of the people in a constructive and wholesome manner. The Recreation, Parks and Playgrounds Commission shall provide, conduct and supervise public parks and playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation centers and other recreational facilities and activities on any of the properties owned or controlled by the city, or on other properties with the consent of the owners.

The Recreation Commission advises City staff and City Council concerning operation of various programs and facilities. The City Manager hires and supervises a professional Recreation Director who manages the Recreation Department staff. The Commission helps operate a new recreation center, Bisset Park (a large park along the river), Wildwood Park (a nature preserve in the center of the City) and a number of other smaller parks and athletic facilities.
