Emergency Response Team

The Radford City Police Department’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), or SWAT, was formed in early 2008 when the need to better respond to critical or emergent events became necessary for public and officer safety. The ERT is compromised of 8 operators, including 2 snipers, from within the ranks of the department.

Duties & Training
The team is highly trained and skilled in specialized functions that enable them to respond to hostage / barricade situations, armed confrontations, high risk warrant service, fugitive apprehension, and any high risk emergency situation in which exclusive training or equipment may be needed. The ERT trains regularly in many different disciplines and works and trains frequently with other teams across the New River Valley.
