Letter From Sheriff Armentrout

It has been a honor to be Sheriff of Radford since November 2004, and as a lifelong resident of Radford, I take pride in this office, our staff, and our community. One of my top priorities as sheriff was to achieve accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Standards Commission. In 2006, we joined the Radford Police Department and Radford University Police Department in achieving this honor. We had the distinction at that time of being the smallest agency to achieve accreditation in Virginia. The size of our agency affords us opportunities that larger agencies simply do not have as we are able to serve the citizens in a more personal manner. I am even more proud that we have all worked hard to maintain that status resulting in our re-accreditation in 2010, 2014 and 2018. I am certain that we will again meet the challenge during our reaccreditation in September 2022.
Sheriff Armentrout
Our mission statement describes the execution of our core duties, civil process and court security, as well as involvement with community programs. We strive to enhance the quality of life in the City of Radford by protecting life and property, and upholding the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. We also have undertaken an ever expanding community outreach with new and innovative programs meant to lift our community members young and old.

We are proud to serve in such a naturally beautiful community with a colorful history and a diverse population. However, I believe Radford’s small town charm is what makes it the jewel of southwest Virginia.
